DHAKA: He has already taken after his mother in the fashion stakes, causing clothes he wears to fly off the shelves of shops.

Now Prince George is setting trends in the name game. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s choice for their son has seen it soar in popularity, making it into the boys’ top 10 names for 2013.

But as the young royal arrived midway through the year, in July, the Office for National Statistics, which publishes the annual rankings, said the full impact of the future king’s christening may not have been seen yet.

The name rose two places to become the 10th most popular, joining other royal choices William, in eighth place, and last year’s favourite Harry, which was knocked off the top spot into third.

Oliver and Amelia were the most popular names given to babies born in England and Wales. Amelia has been number one since 2011.

Oscar and George replaced Alfie and Riley in the boys’ top 10, while Poppy took the place of Lily in the top 10 for girls, reports gulfnews.com.
