DHAKA: Saudi Arabia has indicated it would be willing to host a training program for moderate Syrian opposition fighters.

American officials told the New York Times on Wednesday night, The Jerusalem Post publishes this report on Thursday.

A senior State Department official told the Times that a number of plans to degrade ‘ISIS would be stepped up’, including tackling the flow of money to the terrorist group ‘by cracking down on oil smuggling and curtailing contributions from private donors’.

‘We’re fairly confident (the Saudi’s) will be forward leaning on this,’ a senior State Department official said of the slated training and arming effort.

US secretary of state John Kerry heads to Saudi Arabia on Thursday to meet with senior officials from Arab states, as part of a broader effort to rally nations behind a plan to stave off IS.
