Stop misuse of Malaysian student visa

FROM CHERUS, KUALALUMPUR: Bangladeshi students are trapped in the attractive advertisements which say that part time job side by side with studying.

Being victims of fraud agents, few hundreds of Bangladeshi students are facing an embarrassing situation after coming over here.

Practically labors are coming to Malaysia with student visa degrading the prestige of the Bangladeshi students and the meritorious students are being trafficked out as labor.

Some students of University College Sedaya International (UCSI) on Thursday evening alleged these types of mal-practice during a homely discussion.

One Fyroz Humayiara Bhuyian, who came here in last March to study in electrical and electronic engineering in UCSI, told that here in this country some institutions are of class while some are of very low standard. In this case the students should carefully select the institution.

Sumayia Shafik Khan of Dhaka who was brought up in Saudi Arabia has been studying here since May of 2013 in Mass Communication for graduation told that there are lots of advertisements in the country for studying here with the facilities of part time job. But in reality the meritorious students are put into trouble after being allured to come.

Mahfuzur Rahman, a student of mechanical engineering department, alleged in the same tone that the students, being advised by the education consultants, are facing trouble after coming over here to prosecute study along with a dream of earning huge money.

A group of agents who allured these innocent youths are all fraud and false. A student who engages himself in any part time job that earning is so meager which is not enough for studying and staying in Malaysia. Moreover there is no job which is less than twelve hours in a day.

Another student of mechanical engineering department Mahfuzul Abedin told about the lacking of education here that expressed that the teachers here use either Chinese or Malayan language which embarrass us.  He told that through agents, the labors come here with student visa so we are being considered as labor.

Those students informed that the problems of the middle class families are worse. Generally the part time jobs are available in the shopping malls or restaurants where one is supposed to work for 8 to 12 hours. But this job is regarded as full time but the salary is according to hours of work.

The part time workers are paid 5 to 7 ringit (one ringit is equivalent to Bangladeshi Taka 24).

Sumayaia further informed that there is no permission to do part time job officially. Here the locals are given preference in part time job with little scope. The money, which we get from this job, does not cover 20 percent of the total expenses of staying here with student status.

Regarding the student life here Sumayia told that there some good features that we have come here from very good financial background but we have become self-dependent to carry our daily life activities like washing dishes and cleaning our rooms.

Rafat told that we can now take our decisions about ours of own as I am now thinking to transfer my credit.

They have all home sickness particularly when they fell in sick.

This year a Bangladeshi students association has been formed in UCSI with 55 members.

The students alleged that Bangladeshi community here is still to raise there heads as a strong organization because of lack of unity. If we can stand on strong footing then we will not be a laughing stock any more.

The students here are engaged in many cultural activities along with study. Recently Sumayia has earned appreciation by singing song in a function of Feni association. She informed that while in Saudi Arabia she had reputation as a singer.

Mahfuz told that if we can project our culture on community basis then the dignity of our country will be enhanced. In last May, we arranged a function titled ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’.

All students here desire that we must be careful so that any labor does not come here with student visa. Because meritorious students are being trafficked as labor that tarnishes the dignity of genuine students as well as of the country.
