DHAKA: Police arrested 37 men and eight women for illegal assembly during a clear-out operation at Lung Wo Road in downtown Hong Kong early Wednesday morning.
Despite witnesses saying some protesters were injured in the clashes, Senior Superintendent Tsui Wai Hung said that no protesters had reported any injuries.
But four police officers were hurt during the clashes, the South China Morning Post quoted him as saying at a press conference.
‘One of our colleagues’ left shoulder was dislocated,’ he said, reports The Straits Times.
‘Another one suffered a cut near the eye after being poked by an umbrella.’
Broadcaster TVB, however, aired footage of what it said was a group of police officers beating a handcuffed protester for several minutes
The authenticity of the video could not be independently verified. Reports said the protester in the video was Civic Party member Ken Tsang
The Complaints Against Police Office has already received a relevant complaint and will handle it in accordance with the established procedures in a just and impartial manner, police said.
