DHAKA: Riot police forcibly cleared protesters from Mexico City’s main square late Thursday as outrage mounted over the case of dozens of missing students.
A few minor scuffles broke out as police swept through the square, but the demonstrators left largely without incident.
A short time before that, police used fire extinguishers to disperse protesters who had thrown Molotov cocktails in front of the National Palace, which is situated on the square, and is used by the Mexican President on ceremonial occasions.
Earlier, masked protesters clashed with police near Mexico City’s airport.
Televised images showed demonstrators throwing Molotov cocktails at police and burning tires near the airport.
One officer was injured by a firecracker, police said in a Twitter post, report the CNN.
Protesters carried signs demanding justice for the case of the 43 students who went missing nearly two months ago in Iguala of Mexico.
Mexico’s attorney general says the students were captured by police on the orders of a local mayor, handed over to a drug gang and executed.
