DHAKA: An earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 6.8 jolted central Japan on Saturday evening.
The meteorological agency said, reports The Straits Times.
Public broadcaster NHK said no tsunami warning had been issued.
The quake struck at 10:08pm (local time), with its epicentre at a depth of 10km in the north of Nagano Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, according to the agency.
High-speed trains were halted, but there were no immediate reports of serious damage from the quake, which was felt as far away as the capital of Tokyo about 180km away.
