Vietnam sentences 8 to death for heroin trafficking

DHAKA: The People's Court of Vietnam sentenced eight people, including two women, to death in Hoa Binh province for heroin trafficking.

State-controlled English daily ‘The Tuoi Tre’ publishes this report on Tuesday.

They were convicted of trafficking 189 kilograms of heroin after a two-week trial by the Court that ended Monday.

The court also sentenced five members of the smuggling gang to lifetime imprisonment and 17 others from six to 20 years in prison on the same charges.

Vietnam follows some of the world's toughest drug laws where possessing or trafficking 100 grams of heroin is punishable by death.
