DHAKA: Japan lifted a tsunami advisory nearly an hour after the country had issued the advisory following an earthquake off its northeastern coast Tuesday morning local time.
The Japan News reported a tsunami advisory was issued in Iwate Prefecture in morning after a magnitude-6.9 earthquake hit the Pacific coast of the Tohoku area.
The earthquake struck at about 8:06am at the depth of about 10 kilometers off the Sanriku area, measuring 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Akita prefectures.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, tsunami of about 20 centimeters was observed at the Kuji Port in Iwater Prefecuture at about 9:07 a.m. and that of about 10 centimeters in Miyako in the prefecture at about 8:47 a.m.
A small tsunami of several centimeters was seen at Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture.
No major damages were reported. The tsunami advisory was lifted at 10:20 a.m.
