DHAKA: Two Indians and an American were among seven people killed when gunmen stormed a downtown Kabul guesthouse, trapping several foreigners and triggering a seven-hour-long overnight standoff with Afghan security forces.

The officials said on Thursday, reports the NDTV.com.

Authorities cordoned off the area around the Park Palace guest house in Kabul’s Kolola Pushta area immediately after the attack began, at around 8:30pm (Local time) on Wednesday.

There were six Indians in the guest house at the time of the attack, three have been moved to safety but one is still missing.

Sources say the gunmen went from one room to another in search of people; some witnesses told NDTV that bullets whizzed past them and they have to hid themselves inside their rooms to escape the gunmen.

Sources have also told NDTV that the Indian envoy could have been the intended target.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in China on a three-day visit, expressed concern about the situation in Kabul.

“In the aircraft I got news about the attack in Kabul. Am concerned about the situation & I pray for everyone’s safety (sic),” he tweeted late on Wednesday night.
