India heat wave death toll crosses 2200

DHAKA: 202 more deaths have been reported in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha of India since Saturday, taking the number of people killed from heat wave in the country to over 2,200.

In Andhra Pradesh, 146 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, while 52 more people died in Telangana, taking the total number of people killed due to the heat wave in the states to 1636 and 541 respectively, reports NDTV.

 The death toll in Odisha also rose to 21 from 17 since yesterday. Seven people have died due to the extreme weather in Gujarat and two in Delhi.
 
The heat wave has intensified in many parts of the country but Nagpur in Maharashtra recorded the highest temperature of 47.1 degrees celsius.
 
According to Indian Meteorological Department, light rainfall occurred at few places over Rayalaseema and at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh. Some regions in Telangana also received light rainfall Saturday.
