DHAKA: At least 30 people were killed and scores have gone missing in landslides triggered by the continuous rainfall at six different VDCs of Taplejung in Nepal Wednesday night.
Among the deceased, there are nine people of Sanchahang Themsohang's family and a family guest in Liwang VDC of the district.
The incident occurred due to continuous rainfall since Wednesday evening. Over dozen houses in the different VDCs were swept by the landslides, reports the Republica on Thursday.
Police have presumed that the number of deceased might increase as the dozen of houses were flooded by the landslide.
Acting Chief District Officer (CDO) Surendra Bhattarai informed that the injured have been unable to be ferried to the District Hospital for treatment due to sharp rise in the water level in the local streams and gorges.
Bhattarai further said that they are preparing to send helicopter to rescue the injured.
A police team deployed in the incident site was stranded on the way due to continuous landslide, added DSP Shanti Raj Koirala.
