Malaysia Airlines flight fire forces emergency landing

DHAKA: A Malaysia Airlines plane reportedly dumped fuel before making an emergency landing at Melbourne Airport due to an engine fire.

Flight MH148, which was headed to Kuala Lumpur, appeared to circle the airport a number of times before landing.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade has confirmed it is assisting with an incident at the airport but said it could not provide further detail.

Melbourne Airport has confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and that all operations at the airport continue as normal.

Airservices Australia said the plane had reported an “engine problem”.

“We provide air traffic control and aviation rescue firefighting services for Melbourne Airport, so basically the plane reported an engine problem, dumped their fuel and returned to land,” an Airservices Australia spokeswoman said.
