Landslides bury 2 Nepal villages, killing 15

DHAKA: Landslides in a mountain area of Nepal buried two villages Thursday, killing at least 15 people with several more believed to be buried, authorities said.

The Nepal Home Ministry said 11 people were killed when the landslide triggered by heavy overnight rainfall buried the village at Lumle located about 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Kathmandu, news.yahoo.com reported.

At least four bodies were pulled out of nearby Dudhe village Thursday. Village official Bhesh Raj Parajuli said two bridges connecting the village have been washed away.

Another 13 people were hurt in the landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. Details were still sketchy as rescuers were still on the way to the area.

Heavy monsoon rains in Nepal often trigger landslides in mountain area and flooding in the plain areas in the south.
