DHAKA: Five people have died and eight others are injured after a lorry collided with the Bangalore-Nanded Express in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district early this morning.
Karnataka Congress legislator from Devadurg, Venkatesh Naik, is among the people who were killed in the accident, reports NDTV
Three of those killed were passengers in the train, while the other two were the driver and the cleaner of the lorry.
The accident happened around 2:20 am at a level crossing at Madakasira in Penukonda mandal of Anantapur district when the brakes of a granite carrying lorry reportedly failed and it hit the railway gate and then a bogie of the Bangalore-Nanded Express.
Due to the accident, three bogies of the train have derailed. Train movement on the Bengaluru-Guntakal route has been affected.
Rescue work has been launched by railway officials and local police.
