DHAKA: Canada's opposition Liberal Party is heading for victory in parliamentary elections that would end nine years of Conservative rule, early results show.
Out of 338 seats, results of 230 seats were declared till 9:10am. The Liberals, led by Justin Trudeau, have won in 138 seats while the Conservative Party led by Stephen Harper have won in 75 seats.
Besides, the left-leaning New Democratic Party of Canada led by Thomas Mulcair, so far, grabbed 12 seats and Bloc Québécois led by Gilles Duceppe have won in 5 seats, says The Canadian Press.
To form a majority government, a party needs 170 seats in the 338-member parliament.
The son of late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau is now poised to form the next government, Canada’s CBC and CTV networks predict, reports the BBC.
Incumbent Conservative PM Stephen Harper is fighting for a fourth term.
