DHAKA: Four people were shot dead Friday at a school and a second location in an aboriginal community in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, police said.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police said at a news conference Friday night that four people were dead and others were critically wounded at the La Loche Community School, reports the cbsnews.com
Speaking from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau initially said five people were killed.
Trudeau said the alleged shooter was in custody and the situation was under control.
"This is every parent's worst nightmare," Trudeau said. "The community is reeling."
In an interview with News Talk 650 CKOM radio, La Loche Mayor Kevin Janvier said his daughter was one of the victims.
CBC News reported a hospital nurse said a number of people were being treated for gunshot wounds.
"On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer the families and friends of the victims our deepest condolences on this darkest of days," Trudeau said. "Our hearts and prayers are also with those injured in the attack, that they may have a full and speedy recovery."
