DHAKA: At least nine people, including four women and a child, were killed when a truck hit a van at Thappathi in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu in India.
All the deceased were passengers in the van, Times of India reports on Monday (May 9).
Police said a group of people were returning to Irukkankudi in Virudhunagar district after attending a function at Pudiamputtur near Tuticorin when the accident happened.
One of the tyres of the van burst. The driver was changing the tyre when a truck rammed the van from behind, killing eight people on the spot.
Four others, who sustained serious injuries, were rushed to Government Hospital in Tuticorin where one of them died later.
The Masarpatti police registered a case. The bodies were sent for postmortem.
