TOKYO: Japan`s cabinet resigned Friday, paving the way for a reshuffle by Prime Minister Naoto Kan later in the day, ministers told reporters.

Justice Minister Keiko Chiba and Administrative Reform Minister Renho confirmed to reporters that they had all handed in their resignations.

Kan is set to reshuffle his three-month-old cabinet later Friday in a bid to boost public support, just days after being re-elected as party president.

"I have to make a good team," Kan told reporters before holding a cabinet meeting.

After the resignation, the government will announce the new cabinet in the early afternoon, the Yomiuri daily reported.

After officially being sworn in by Emperor Akihito, the new cabinet members will hold news conferences, the report said.
