DHAKA: US President Barack Obama has said discrimination against LGBT people must be tackled at home and abroad.
He came up with the assertion after meeting Orlando attack victims, reports the BBC.
A gunman killed 49 people on Sunday morning at a gay nightclub in the city.
Obama challenged the Republican-controlled Congress to pass gun control legislation.
But Republican Senator John McCain said the president was “directly responsible” because he had failed to tackle the Islamic State group.
Gunman Omar Mateen claimed allegiance to the militant group as he carried out the massacre.
The senator said: “When he pulled everybody out of Iraq, al-Qaida went to Syria, became Isis, and Isis is what it is today thanks to Barack Obama’s failures, utter failures, by pulling everybody out of Iraq.”
He later clarified that he did not mean the president was personally responsible.
On Thursday, hundreds of people gathered outside the Amway Center in Orlando as the president and vice-president consoled relatives inside.
