DHAKA: The US Capitol building lockdown has been lifted.

The US Capitol and Capitol Visitor Center were on lockdown Friday morning (July 8) while the US Capitol Police investigated ‘a report person of interest’.

‘Out of abundance of caution, the US Capitol and Capitol Visitor Center are on lockdown while USCP investigates a report of a person of interest. Building occupants are advised to shelter in place and await further USCP instructions,’ Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said in an email at the time, reports usatoday.com.

ABC News says, Capitol police had said they were searching for an individual but offered no details.

One officer outside the Capitol said police are responding to sketchy reports of woman who may have a gun; a House Democratic leadership staffer had said the sergeant at arms office had said there had been a woman with a gun in a tunnel leading to the Rayburn House Office Building.

The House had met briefly before being dismissed for recess.
