DHAKA: UK Prime Minister David Cameron will step down Wednesday (July 13) as Theresa May will become prime minister of the UK on the day.
He will step down earlier than expected.
Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, Cameron said he would offer his resignation to the Queen on Wednesday afternoon at Buckingham Palace.
Cameron, PM since 2010, said he would quit after the UK's Brexit vote.
He said he would be chairing his final cabinet meeting on Tuesday, reports the BBC.
However, Cameron took his decision after Andrea Leadsom dropped out of the contest to become leader of the Conservative Party, says euronews.com.
That left only home secretary May, the interior minister, in the running for the job.
