DHAKA: At least a dozen people are feared killed and many are injured after suspected militants opened fire at a busy market area in Kokrajhar town of India’s Assam on Friday (August 5).
The incident took place at a weekly market. One of the militants also threw a grenade, said a witness.
Reports suggest that security forces have killed one militant, reports the NDTV.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has briefed Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the attack, reports say.
Police chief Mukesh Sahay said “At least three-four militants attacked the market place. Grenades were thrown...some militants are on the run”.
