DHAKA: A massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of New Caledonia on Friday (August 12).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake struck at a depth of about 9km and 109 kilometers east of Ile Hunter in New Caledonia at 1:26 GMT.

However, there was no tsunami threat, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
