DHAKA: A team of six people have accomplished their year-long living in complete isolation as Mars simulation program by NASA.

Hawaii hosted the program in a dome since August 15 last year. A group of six people have lived without fresh food, air and privacy, BBC reports.

Experts estimated that an actual human mission in the Red Planed could be launched within one to three years.

The NASA funded program became second longest of its kind, sitting behind Russia’s 520 day long stand.

After survived a long year in isolation, the crews hoped that an actual Mars mission could be succeeded.

“I can give you my personal impression which is that a mission to Mars in the close future is realistic,” Cyprien Verseux, a crew member from France, told journalists adding “I think the technological and psychological obstacles can be overcome.”

However, mission commander Carmel Johnston said that lack of privacy was hard on them for the past year.

The team consisted of a French astro-biologist, a German physicist and four Americans - a pilot, an architect, a journalist and a soil scientist.

The key experiment dealt with the human elements of exploration given an extreme environment to live for a long period of time.

During the mission, the crew had to wear space suit when outside the dome, live on limited resource and most importantly avoid personal conflicts.

They had a small cot and table to live with. Their diet consisted of mainly powdered cheese and canned tuna.
