DHAKA: At least 35 people were killed when a bus collided with an oil tanker in southern part of Afghanistan on Sunday morning (September 04).
Many of the victims including women and children were beyond recognition as the collision instantly generated a huge blast and fire devoured the whole scene.
The incident took place in Zabul province, one of the worst affected areas by Taliban insurgencies.
“The passenger bus was on its way from Kandahar to Kabul when it collided with a fuel tanker in Jildak area of Zabul,” provincial governor Bismillah Afghanmal told Yahoo news.
He also added that scores of other people sustained injures and were rushed to provincial capital Qalat as well as neighboring Kandahar province, said Ghulam Jilani Farahi, deputy Zabul police chief.
Authority has blames the accident on reckless driving. Many drivers reportedly top their engine speed aiming not to be caught by any insurgencies. The war torn country has some of the world’s most dangerous roads and traffic rules are seldom enforced.
In May, two busses and a oil tanker collided killing at least 73. In April, another bus-oil tanker collision killed 45 people.
