Rosetta probe’s lost lander Philae found

DHAKA: European Space Agency’s (ESA) lost comet lander Philae has been found.

The little robot has been spotted from recently send images from Rosetta probe.

ESA officials confirming the matter told BBC that ‘It’s as clear as day’ about Philae’s identity.

Philae was dropped on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014 but went silent after 60 hours with flat battery.

Although it relayed pictures and data about its location to Earth, the lander's actual resting place was unknown.

The recent images were down linked to earth on Sunday night and after processing the final results were ready on Monday (September 05) night.

The discovery comes just a few weeks before controllers plan to crash-land Rosetta itself on to the comet to formally end its investigation of 67P.

Esa’s senior science advisor Prof Mark McCaughrean said “It was very important to find Philae before the mission ended, to understand the context of its in-situ scientific measurements”.
