DHAKA: With the slogan of ‘Make America Great Again’ Donald J Trump won the presidential elections in the USA by defeating his Democrat rival Hillary Clinton on Wednesday (November 9).

Trump, a man with no background in politics, who has never held elected office, has overturned the rules and defied the polls, which at the start of the night had forecast a ‘fairly easy victory for Hillary Clinton’.

But his supporters are thrilled seeing their candidate walking to the White House.

Terming this victory a ‘great night for America’, a senior policy adviser to the Trump campaign Curtis Ellis said, “It’s a wonderful night. It’s a great night for America – it’s a great night for people around the world”.

Moreover, the Republicans clinched a majority in the House of Representatives, extending six years of control of the chamber, with Democratic gains looking modest.

Votes were still being counted but the Republicans had won at least 218 House seats, more than enough for a majority.
