Bangladeshi origin Rupa Huq sealed victory as a Member of Parliament (MP) in UK General Election, for the second consecutive time.
Rupa, from Labour Party, held the seat of Ealing Central & Acton Rupa Huq taking 59.7% of the vote (33,037) which is a 16.5% increase from 2015.
She won 13,807 more votes than the Conservative candidate Joy Morrissey who received 19,230 votes.
Another candidate, Jon Ball, from Liberal Democrat earned 3,075 votes in the seat.
The result was declared earlier in the night than was expected as a disastrous night for the Conservatives unfolded.
The contest had been fractious with Rupa’s Conservative opponent Joy Morrissey threatening legal action over the content of Labour election leaflets which she claimed contained falsehoods about her views on the NHS and Brexit.
Rupa thanked all her campaign team and paid an emotional tribute to her recently deceased mother.
However, a faculty of Kingston University, Rupa’s ancestral home is in Pabna district.
