Indian Army Major, 3 soldiers killed in Pakistan firing

An officer of Indian Army and three other soldiers were killed in cross-border after Pakistani troops opened fire on an Indian Army patrol in Keri sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday (December 23).

According to report of The Economics Times, the firing took place around 12:15 pm.

The deceased were identified as Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, 32, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, 34, Sepoy Pargat Singh, 30, and another soldier.

The three were killed on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries in the hospital later.

Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas belonged to District Bhandara, Maharashtra and is survived by his wife Avoli Moharkar. Lance Naik Gurmail Singh hails from District Amritsar in Punjab and is survived by his wife Kuljit Kaur and a daughter. Sepoy Pargat Singh belonged to Karnal district in Haryana and is survived by his wife Ramanpreet Kaur and a son.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh paid tribute to martyred soldiers and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved families.
