DHAKA: Police arrested former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on charge of “inciting violence” against Tehran government on Sunday (January 7).

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claims that he was critical of the current regime and leader.

Ahmadinejad was arrested for comments he made against the Tehran government and skyrocketing food prices during a rally on December 28, in the western Iranian city of Bushehr.

Ahmadinejad, who served as the president of Iran from 2005 to 2013, will be placed under house arrest if Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei grants permission to the authorities to do so, according toAl Arabiya.
