DHAKA: The Egyptian authorities have warned Muslim Brotherhood supporters against attempts to stage violent protests as security is being tightened in Cairo and other cities.

Egypt interior ministry said in a statement that it was ‘determined to counter violence and offences by people supporting the Muslim Brotherhood’ and that security had been tightened on highways, in cities and around important facilities.

The ministry warned against attempts to mar the October 6 ceremonies, reports The Voice of Russia. The Six-Day War broke out on October 6 in 1973.

In his Saturday address to the nation, prime minister Hazem al-Beblawi said that ‘evil elements’, though considerably weakened, still posed a danger, obviously referring to the Muslim Brotherhood.

On Friday, four people were killed and more than 40 others were injured during clashes between supporters and opponents of the deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and between Brotherhood supporters and security forces.

In Cairo, police reportedly used tear gas to disperse protesters gathered in Tahrir Square.
