DHAKA: The High Court granted Green Line Paribahan Ltd 7 days to compensate Dhaka road crash victim Russel Sarker Tk 50 lakh.
The bus authorities were also directed to submit a report in affidavit format upon implementing the order, within April 10.
Otherwise, the bus authorities cannot sell advance tickets for April 11 onwards.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the order after summoning Green Line’s general manager (GM) Thursday (April 4).
In the morning, the court summoned the bus company’s GM to appear before it by 2pm over avoiding its earlier order to compensate Russel.
On Mar 12, the same HC bench ordered Green Line to compensate the victim within two weeks.
Besides, the bus authorities were directed to carry the costs if Russel requires a surgery on leg and implantation of an artificial leg.
Russel Sarker, then a rent-a-car driver, lost one of his legs under the wheel of a Green Line Paribahan bus on the slope of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar area of Jatrabari on Apr 28, 2018.
On May 14, 2018, the court earlier issued a rule why Russel won’t be compensated with one crore taka, following a writ petition from former lawmaker Umme Kulsum Smrity.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court too upheld the HC order after rejecting an appeal of Green Line on March 31.
