CHAPAI NAWABGANJ: Five persons were sentenced to death for gang-raping and killing a woman in the district sadar in 2015. 

Judge Md. Shawkot Ali of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 of Chapai Nawabganj delivered the verdict on Thursday (April 18).

The judge also fined convicts Tk 1 lakh each. Otherwise, they will have to serve seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

During the announcement of the verdict, two convicts were present and the rest three were absconding.

The convicts are- Nayon Karmokar Robidas, 32, son of Shymapod Robidas of Malbagdanga village under Charbagdanga union of  Chapai Nawabganj Sadar Upazila, Nitai Chandra Robidas, 30, son of Raton Robidas, of the same area, Suvas Das, 46, son of late Sochen Das, and Prashanto Robidas, 28, son of Khokon Robidas, of Chakpara village under Charbagdanga union of the same upazila, Prashanto Robidas, 26, son of Biren Das, of Sonarpatti village of the same union.

Ayesha Khatun was gang raped and then murdered on June 13 of 2015. Her body was dumped into a ditch at Moharajpur of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila, according to the statement of Chapainawabganj additional public prosecutor advocate Anjuman Ara.

On June 14, police recovered Ayesha’s body from that spot. Later, police, being the plaintiff, filed the case.
