Moudud’s review plea rejected, graft trial to continue Supreme Court

DHAKA: The Supreme Court has kept its earlier order which upheld the High Court directive clearing the way to continue the trial proceedings of a graft case against BNP’s standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed.

A bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice dismissed the petition on Sunday (August 25), which seeks review of its earlier order.

The SC upheld the HC order that cleared the way to continue the trial proceedings against Moudud on May 14.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan was on behalf of the ACC while Barrister Moudud Ahmed stood   for himself.

The trial court rejected the petition on March 4. Later, he submitted the petition before HC, but HC directly rejected the appeal on April 8. Moudud appealed to the chamber court of Appellate division against HC order. However, the chamber court sent the petition to the full bench of Appellate Division for hearing without giving a stay order.

ACC filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against Moudud on September 16 of 2007.

The case filed on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 7.38 crore and concealing information about his wealth worth Tk 4.40 crore.
