Care for your feet this rainy season

The rains are finally here, and for most of us that means flooded roads. While it's inevitable to venture out, wading through waterlogged streets can wreck havoc on your feet and can also result in fungal infections. Here's how to care for them this season...

Keep your feet clean: To ensure that your feet don't bear the brunt of a fungal attack, keep them clean.

Make it a point to wash your feet with soap and water after you return home. Also remember to wipe them dry properly especially between your toes -and then moisturize them.

Clip your toenails: A lot of dirt accumulates underneath nails, so it is wise to keep your toenails short during monsoons. Clipping your toenails regularly will make it easier for you to keep your feet clean.

Wear the right footwear: Keep away from canvas shoes and high-heeled footwear this season. Sometimes you have no option but to wear your footwear even after it gets wet, but damp closed shoes can result in infection. Instead, opt for flip-flops or other open-toe footwear, in water resistant material.

Keep your footwear clean: Like your feet, it is also important to keep your footwear clean. Run water over your flip-flops or shoes and dry them out at night. This ensures that all the dirt and grime is washed away, reducing the chances of contracting any infection.

Go for a pedicure: It is vital that you don't miss your monthly pedicure appointment during monsoons.

Your feet go through a lot of trauma this time of the year, so it will do you good to pamper them. But ensure that clean and sterilized instruments are used.
