A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in Dhaka and some other southern parts of the country on Monday (Dec 5) morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The earthquake was felt at 9:19 am, it said.
Nizam Uddin, a meteorologist at BMD, said the epicenter of the earthquake was in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal, very close to India.
The epicenter was 529km southwest of Dhaka, 340km southwest of Cox's Bazar and 397km southwest of Chittagong, he added
However, no casualties were reported so far.
