Cops-workers clash in Savar

DHAKA: Sporadic clashes between agitated ready-made garments (RMG) workers and police continued in Ashulia and Hemayetpur industrial areas of Savar on Monday.

The clash triggered while Standard group workers placed 10-point demand and locked into clash with members of factory administration. They also vandalized the factory in a bid to create pressure for realizing their demands.

Police fired rounds of rubber bullets and tear-gas shells to thwart the agitation while the angry workers attempted to set fire to the factory.

Agitated workers also countered law enforcers and blocked Hemayetpur-Keraniganj road.

Later, a platoon of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) personnel was deployed in the area to control the situation.

Meanwhile, the agitations have also been erupted in Narshighapur, Jamgora, Shimultola and adjacent areas of the Ashulia industrial belt on the same demand.
