A Rohingya leader was shot dead by unidentified muggers in a refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The incident occurred at midnight at Block-C of Rohingya Camp No. 9 on Monday (6 Mar) night.

The deceased is Waqqas Rafiq, 40, confirmed Ukhiya police station OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali.

The OC said that around 30 people participated in the killing mission. After the incident, Rafiq was rushed to nearby hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead. 

The deceased's body has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, he said, adding APBN police is conducting a special drive to arrest the muggers.
