Writ challenges legality of president Shahabuddin's election process

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of the process for electing Md Shahabuddin as president of the country.

M A Aziz Khan, a Supreme Court lawyer filed the writ petition with the High Court on Tuesday (Mar 7). 

The Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner have been made respondents in the writ petition.

Earlier on February 13, a gazette notification has been issued declaring Md Shahabuddin as the newly elected president of Bangladesh.

Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam signed the notification.

Md Shahabuddin was a retired district judge and a former commissioner of ACC.

Incumbent President Abdul Hamid's tenure is set to expire on April 24.
