The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) started selling essential items to one crore low-income group families at subsidised prices ahead of the holy Ramadan today (March 9).
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the first phase of the programme at Tejgaon area in the capital on Thursday (March 9).
He said, 'One crore families will be given food aid twice marking the holy Ramadan. Today is the beginning of its first phase. The second round of selling will start on April 1 and will continue till April 15."
The minister also said about three crore people of the country are of low income. as one crore people are being given food aid, five crore people will benefit from it.
TCB cardholders will be able to buy one kg sugar at Tk 60 per kg, two kg lentils at Tk 70 per kg, two litres of soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre and one kg chickpea Tk 50 per kg, and dates at Tk 100 a kg, according to a press release. Dates will be sold only inside Dhaka city.
