Nationwide transport strike begins

BOGRA: The 24-hour countrywide transport strike, called by Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation, is underway from Thursday morning.

The organization is enforcing the strike demanding the release of its joint secretary Advocate Shimul Biswas, also special assistant to the opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

No long distance bus or truck was seen plying on highways after the strike started at 6:00am, causing immense suffering to people from all walks of life including University admission seekers.

On Friday, the admission test of Dhaka University and Jagannath University is scheduled to be held.

Transport workers’ leaders said they are observing the transport strike from 6:00am Thursday to 6:00am Friday as Shimul Biswas was not released before deadline though the government gave assurance to meet up our demand.
