GAZIPUR: At least 20 people injured and a police van was torched during sporadic clashes between police and garments workers in Kashimpur area of Konabari industrial belt of the district on Monday.

The clash erupted in front of Mandal Group garment factory at Kshimpur around 3.30pm.

Witness said angry workers from Alim Sweater Ltd brought out with procession and vandalized several vehicles in the road.

Later, law enforcers rushed to the spot and opened fire rounds of rubber bullets and teargas shells to control the situation but the police intervention lingered the clash, leaving 20 people injured.

Agitating workers also torched a police van during the clash.

Kashimpur Chakrabarty Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
