MYMENSINGH: Some five compartments of Intercity Haor Express train derailed early Tuesday as the blockade supporters uprooted fishplates of rail tracks near the outer signal area of Shyamganj rail station in Gouripur upazila of the district.

Local and railway sources said the Mohonganj-bound Haor Express derailed near the outer signal of Shyamganj rail station in Gouripur upazila at around 5:00am.

A few people were injured while getting down from the train quickly, sources added.

Confirming the matter, railway traffic inspector Sajjad Hossain said that a salvage train from Mymensingh reached the spot and has started the rescue work already.

Superintendent of Mymensingh rail station Abu Taher told banglanews that as a result of the accident, train communications of Mymensingh-Mohonganj and Jaria-Jhanjhail remained halted.
