Demo protesting attack on journos

DHAKA: Journalists’ organizations of the country staged a protest rally and human chain demo in front of city’s National Press Club on Wednesday in protest against the recent attack on journalists.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists organized the protest programme.

Several incidents of attack on journalists marked during the recent political disruption in the city and throughout the country amid hartal and blockade.

On Tuesday, banglanews Staff Correspondent Sajeda Sweety, Independent TV cameraperson Khaled Ferdaus, SA TV reporter Mahmudul Haque and cameraperson Swapan were injured in cocktail blasts in front of BNP office during the blockade.

All of them were terminated by miscreants while covering news.
In the protest rally, speakers termed the assaults as denial of journalist’s freedom and also attack on journalism.

Indicating opposition BNP, leaders of journalists that the attacks on journalists would brought an ominous impacts over them, who are taking stand with anti-liberation forces and pressing journalists on opponent.

They demanded legal steps and punitive action against the attack incidents.

The unity of journalists was also emphasized on the rally.

Former BFUJ President and Prime Minister’s information advisor Iqbal Sobhan Choudhwry, BFUJ general secretary Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, DUJ President Omar Faruque and general secretary Shaban Mahmud, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Shahed Choudhwry and general secretary Ilias Khan were among others present at the demo.
