The government today (May 22) announced Bhola's Ilisha-1 as the 29th gas field of Bangladesh.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid came up with the official announcement at a press conference at 9am.
The new gas field is expected to have about 200 billion cubic feet of gas reserves, said the state minister.
He said: “The market value of gas stored in Ilisha-1 is Tk6,500 crore, and if we consider the price of imported LNG, then the price will be Tk26,000 crore."
It's very good news, he said, adding a total of about three TCF gas reserves are expected in Bhola, the state minister noted.
Earlier on April 28, the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) started experimental gas exploration from the ninth well of the Ilisha-1 gas field in Bhola.
