Lightning strikes kill cricketer in Gopalganj

A cricketer was struck dead by lightning while a match was in play at Sheikh Kamal Cricket Stadium in Gopalganj on Wednesday (May 31) afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Tamzid Ahmed, 19, son of Imam Ali. He was a player at Dhanmandi Friends Cricket Academy.

Rashedul Islam, coach of Dhanmandi Friends Cricket Academy confirmed the matter.

He said the players of Gopalganj Abahani Cricket Academy and Dhanmandi Friends Cricket Academy were playing a cricket match this noon. Meanwhile, the cricketer was hit by lightning, leaving him critically injured.

Later he was taken to Gopalganj 250-bed hospital where duty doctors declared him dead, he added.
