A Dhaka court today (June 6) sentenced five people to death for killing police constable Badal Miah in the capital's Motijheel area in 2013.
Dhaka 7th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehsin Iftekhar pronounced the judgement and also fined them Taka one lakh each.
The five death-row-convicts are- Ripon Nath Ghosh, Bishwajit Chandra Das, Ibrahim Khalil alias Kosai Khalil, Ratan Chandra Das and Humayun Kabir.
The court also sentenced them to seven-year imprisonment each under another section for their involvement in hiding the body.
Of the five convicts, Bishwajit, Ibrahim and Ratan were present during the pronouncement of the judgment and were sent to jail with conviction warrant.
According to the case documents, police recovered the unidentified body of a youth from T&T Colony area in Motijheel on February 22, 2013. Later it was identified as police constable Badal Miah. Then Motijheel Police Station sub-inspector Abdul Latif filed the case over the incident.
