The customs officials arrested an Indian citizen with 1,800 grams of cocaine, worth around Tk 11 crore, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital early on Saturday (June 10).
Salome Lalramdhari, a resident of Mizoram state in India, was arrested around 2am.
Nazma Jabin, Deputy Director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, confirmed the information on Saturday (June 10).
Based on information from confidential sources, Salomi Lalramdhari was identified as the carrier of narcotics on the mentioned flight to the airport. During the initial interrogation, the passenger denied carrying any drugs.
However, due to suspicious behavior by the passenger, customs officials discovered the existence of drugs during the scanning and body search of the passenger's luggage, specifically a navy-blue trolley bag.
Subsequently, a substance resembling cocaine weighing 1,800 grams was found during the search of the passenger's luggage. The narcotics control officials of the customs and investigation department initially identified it as cocaine through a drug test kit, the customs official added.
