Stolen newborn rescued in Kushtia, one arrested

A newborn girl was rescued from Kushtia early Saturday (June 10) after it had been stolen from the Natore Sadar Hospital on Friday.

Police arrest Kajli Begum Alias Kajaldar, 35, for her alleged involvement with the incident.

Nasim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Natore Police Station confirmed the matter.

On June 9, the baby was taken away from her mother's room in the hospital by a woman disguised as a staff member.

Hasna Hena, wife of bank officer Mahfuzur Rahman and a resident of Mohishdanga village of Noldanga upazila, gave birth to the baby girl on June 8.

Checking the CCTV footage of the hospital, it was found that at 11:36 pm, the middle-aged woman, dressed as a nurse, went straight out of the main gate of the hospital with the newborn in her arms and went out through an auto-rickshaw.

On receiving the information, the police immediately came to the hospital and started an operation to arrest the woman and rescue the child.
