Mahmudul Alam Babu, chairman of Sadhurpara Union Parishad and general secretary of the union's Awami League in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur, was detained from Deviganj Upazila in Panchagarh on Saturday morning.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained him from Char Tistapara of the upazila around 7 am. 

Char Tistapara Union chairman Harunur Rashid confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

He said, "I am aware of the incident. He (Mahmudul Alam Babu) was taken into custody at 7 in the morning. RAB members and many police personnel were present."

Sohel Rana, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakshiganj Police Station, said that he was also informed by RAB about the incident.

He said, "RAB arrested Chairman Babu when they went to his sister's house after collecting the address."

Earlier, on Friday (June 16), Chairman Babu, a suspect in the murder of Golam Rabbani Nadim, was suspended from the Awami League for violating party discipline, according to party sources.

Chairman Babu went into hiding after the murder of Nadim.
